Netgear has given its powerline Ethernet adapter a new looked with the release of the Powerline AV 500Mbs (XAVB5001). This new model according to Netgear is with the HomePlug AV (IEEE 1901 HomePlug standards) which means it should be able to communicate with other compatible powerline Ethernet adapter. Even though they have said that I would recommend that you buy them in pears and if you need a third one you buy the same model, just to avoid any problem.
The new Powerline AV 500Mbs offers more speed over the 200Mbs models. For now each adapter comes with only one port so to get more connectivity you will have to buy another model (like the XAV1004 which has four ports).
There is the push button security feature; where you can encrypt you data so that no one copy it. This is useful if you are living in multiple occupancy accommodation, where the power is shared.
I should point out that although it said it’s a gigabit powerline Ethernet adapter, it does not off that amount in speed. It has a gigabit port inside it, but test have shown that you get speed up to 500Mbs, which is deal for most domestic situations. It can handle high speed data download and movie streaming and online gaming.

Netgear XAVB5001 Powerline AV 500 Adapter Kit easily coexists with NETGEAR's Wall-Plugged or HomePlug compatible products.
